How to Refill a Scorch Torch (2024)

Are you using any kind of analog dab device, such as a dab rig or a nectar collector? If so, then you know that a scorch torch is a required accessory. For those who don’t know, a scorch torch is what heats up your dab nail or nectar collector tip so that it can reach the ideal temperature to flash-vaporize your concentrates. In general, a butane torch is a crucial component of most dabbing setups, and all torches must be refilled from time to time.

So yes, even the most advanced scorch torch will run out of butane at some point, and fortunately, almost all torches on the market are refillable. But, if you have never refilled a torch with butane before, we know that the process can be a bit intimidating. The actual refilling process though is pretty straightforward, and the more you do it, the more it will become second nature.

What is a Scorch Torch?

A scorch torch is a type of lighter that usesbutane to achieve a super high temperature. Unlike traditional lighters, which use gas-based lighter fluid, these torches produce more heat due to the nature of butane. Thetemperature of a scorch torch can reach up to 2500 degrees.

Why Do We Use a Scorch Torch When Dabbing?

In order to flash-vaporize our concentrates, we need to expose them to an extremely high temperature, and that’s where scorch torches come in. A regular lighter simply cannot heat the concentrates enough to create the quality of vapor that we’re looking for, since they don’t burn as hot.

How Long Can a Scorch Torch Last?

In many cases, ascorch torch can last forever as long as you take care of it properly, and as long as you choose a high-quality torch available on the market. These torches come in a fairly wide variety of materials, and naturally, you should go with a material that is both heat-resistant and durable in case it drops. One with an ergonomic grip will be beneficial as you’re less likely to drop it.

Still, all torches run out ofbutane sooner or later, and so the only way to keep on using your torch is to refill it. How frequently you’ll need to refill the butane depends on far too many factors for us to be able to provide a simple answer. The size of the torch determines the capacity of the butane, and therefore determines how quickly you will go through it. Also, whether or not it offers continuous flame, and how many flames it lights at once impacts the session.

  • 1.First, the flame will just become weaker, or have a harder time lighting.
  • 2.Then, eventually, you will get no flame at all, which indicates that it’s empty.
  • 3.Once the flame becomes noticeably weaker or more difficult to achieve, it is time for a refill.

The Process of Refilling a Scorch Torch: A Step-by-Step Guide

Just make sure that you follow the steps properly and use only the highest-quality materials to ensure success. Doing so will directly benefit your dabbing hobby for a long time to come in a manner that is both safe and effective.

Step #1: Locate the refill nozzle on the torch, along with the flame adjustment screw. You’ll also need a can of butane fuel made for a scorch torch, which can be find basically anywheretorches are sold. Hold the torch upside-down after opening the nozzle, and use some sort of small, pointy object to remove any remaining butane fluid from the inside. Give it a quick shake to remove any remaining air.

Step #2: Twist the flame adjustment screw clockwise all the way. This will turn off the flow of fuel. Make sure your torch is upright and position the nozzle of the fuel can against the fuel nozzle of the lighter to fill it. The process will take just a bit of time due to the consistency of the fuel, so make sure that your patient and don’t try to hurry up the process by shaking or squeezing the fuel can as this can damage the interior of the torch.

Step #3: It is important that once your torch is filled, you allow it to sit for about 30 minutes. The fluid in the can is cold, and so you need to give it time to reach room temperature inside the torch. Otherwise, it will not work.

Step #4: Now, turn the flame adjustment screw counter-clockwise about halfway, and attempt to light the torch. If nothing happens, give it another small twist in that direction, and try again. Do this repeatedly until you get the desired flame. Now, you can use your torch again.

Other Things to Keep In Mind

  • If your torch still isn’t lighting, there could be debris stuck inside that got in during the refilling process. In this case, try blowing directly into the flame section to remove whatever may be stuck.
  • We highly recommend using onlytriple refined butane or anythingabove. Otherwise, you won’t have the quality of fuel you’re looking for.
  • If you want to make the entire process faster, stick the torch in the freezer for ten minutes. It will fill more quickly this way as there is less of a drastic difference between temperatures that can make it harder for the fuel to enter the torch.
  • If your torch comes with a user manual, consult it to make sure that there isn’t anything else you need to know about maintaining it.
  • Only buy a torch and butane fluid from a trusted source, like a manufacturer that has a well-established reputation.
