The smartphone case that doubles as a photography light can now be used with both the front-facing and rear-facing cameras. Today, LuMee LLC released the LuMee Duo iPhone case with both front and back LCD lights.

The Park City, Utah company says the LuMee Duo is an industry first, adding extra light to both selfies and shots with the rear camera. Both the original LuMee and the LuMee Two use lights mounted on the edges of the phone case, near the front, for better selfie lighting. The latest addition to the lineup, however, uses LEDs on the front and the back, lighting up the scene on either side.

Compatible with the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6s, and 6s Plus, the LuMee Duo uses a dimmer switch to allow the user to control just how much light to add to the scene. The phone case is powered by a rechargeable battery, so it doesn’t siphon off energy from the smartphone.

With lights on both sides of the smartphone case, LuMee says that the new case creates a light that’s not as harsh as a camera flash — or as prone to produce red eye.

Like the company’s second-edition case, the LuMee Duo uses a stronger shell than the first version, along with textured rubber edges, to allow the light to also offer a bit of protection for the phone.

The company was created after professional photographer Allan Shoemake came up with the idea for the original LED case. “I have always dreamed of producing a tool that allows anyone who is passionate about taking photos to be able to create quality images and videos on their smartphone with beautiful lighting,” he said.

The LuMee Duo will be available through select Apple retailers, including Apple.com, as well as the LuMee website. The latest addition to the phone case line lists for $70, or $80 for the iPhone Plus case.

OtterBox’s new iPhone case for CES 2023 fixes an annoying MagSafe problem

This iPhone Case Has Built-in LEDs for Mobile Photography | Digital Trends (3)

One of the best things aboutmore recent iPhones, ever since the iPhone 12, is the introduction of MagSafe. This hardware feature brings about a whole new world of MagSafe accessories— from chargers and battery packs to wallets and phone grips with wireless shutter buttons. OtterBox has a phone case that has a built-in PopSockets PopGrip, but the big problem with that is that you can’t use it with MagSafe. For CES 2023, OtterBox is now rectifying that problem with the new OtterGrip Symmetry Series case, which offers the best of both worlds.

OtterBox is a brand known for its incredibly tough and durable cases and accessories, and that still holds true with the OtterGrip Symmetry Series. The OtterGrip Symmetry Series will have the 3x military-grade standard drop protection that OtterBox’s reputation is built on. And that's all while having a seamless, built-in grip that sits flush with the case, thus working flawlessly with your MagSafe accessories, like chargers and wallets, without ever having to remove or realign the case or grip.

Will your iPhone 13 case fit the iPhone 14?

This iPhone Case Has Built-in LEDs for Mobile Photography | Digital Trends (4)

If you've decided to buy the iPhone 14, it's likely you will also need a solid case to keep your new device safe. Even though all of the iPhone 14models feature a durable Ceramic Shield front cover to keep your device safe, it may not be enough to protect your phone from heavy impacts, long drops, and constant scratches.
We've already done the hard work and rounded up the best iPhone 14 cases available in the market right now, and we've also given you a guide to the best iPhone 14 screen protectors for extra security, as well as guides for each of the other new iPhones as well. But maybe you're wondering, "Do I really have to spend money on a new case after buying an $800 iPhone?" or "Can’t I just use my iPhone 13 case?"
We feel you. But the short answer is: for some models. Here's the longer answer.
Will the iPhone 13 case fit the iPhone 14 device?

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 look quite similar, and the specs are pretty close in terms of size and dimensions, so it's possible the two devices can share a case. The iPhone 14 is slightly thicker than its predecessor, but the overall differences are minor enough that the iPhone 13 case is likely to be functional enough for your new iPhone 14 model. Some manufacturers are already selling a common case for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, so if you're migrating from iPhone 13 to iPhone 14, you can keep the old case. Of course, if you feel the fit isn't good enough, you can always invest in a new case.

Yes, you will want this metal Millennium Falcon iPhone case

This iPhone Case Has Built-in LEDs for Mobile Photography | Digital Trends (5)

We were pretty excited when Casetify announced its new Star Wars collection of phone cases and accessories at the end of April, and we’ve now got our hands on the star of the show, the Millennium Falcon limited-edition case, to see if our anticipation was justified. It’s a thing of beauty and well worth a closer look, but what about the rest of the collection?
Millennium Falcon case
Made of aluminum with a laser -tched image of the Millennium Falcon, there are only 1,000 of these cases in existence so getting one may be a challenge. Now that we’ve got one in our hands, we can see if it’s worth the effort. Let’s start with the design itself. The top-down, schematic-style design of the Falcon itself looks great, and has real texture to it. The aluminum under the design has a brushed effect and catches the light in an attractive way.

A Star Wars logo joins the outline of the Falcon, but gets a little lost in the design, although the text and the rebel insignia down the side is far more legible. The sides of the case are smooth to the touch and don’t have a brushed finish, but still provide more than enough grip so the phone isn’t in danger of slipping out your hand. I could do without the rather uninspiring “This case is made from 50% recycled materials” claim on the side of the case though.

Does a camera take better pictures than an iPhone? ›

Quality of photos

DSLRs have much better image quality than the iPhone. At first glance, iPhone photos may look great on a small screen, but if you zoom in on the images and compare them to photos taken with a DSLR, you'll see a distinct difference.

Why is the iPhone 14 camera not good? ›

The good: better macro capabilities, low-light is exceptional, better zoom range and a larger sensor with higher resolution. The bad: comparing my 14 spots to the 11, I feel that the images in standard mode are way over processed, over saturated, too contrasty, oversharpened and worst - very artificial looking.

Why is the iPhone 15 camera not good? ›

The tele cameras are 12-megapixels, and due to the relatively small sensors inside, they suffer from some noise, especially in darker situations. The only appreciable differences between the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are the screen size and which telephoto camera you get, so those should be your main deciding factors.

Is the iPhone 15 good for photography? ›

It's the real MVP, capturing those vivid details in a slightly hefty 75MB file – all worth it for the dynamic range and cinematic footage. Additionally, while 48MP is the headline, the main camera serves crisp 24MP captures by default. This combines the best of 12MP and 48MP through the magic of QuadBayer sensors.

Do professional photographers use iPhone? ›

Then you're in the right place. Apple offers some of the best cameras to be found on smartphones, especially if you have the latest iPhone Pro or Pro Max. Even professional photographers are using iPhones for some photography work and there's no denying that it's possible to get incredible shots.

Are iPhone pictures better than Android? ›

Overall, iPhones and Androids are mostly aligned in the number of cameras/lenses they include; though most innovations and technical advancements tend to be with Android. For example, both the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the 200MP Galaxy S23 Ultra have four lenses, including a 10x telephoto lens.

Why is the iPhone better than Android? ›

Between the hardware in the iPhone and its iOS design, it's very difficult to accidentally install any type of malware or virus. While this is not 100% foolproof, an iPhone tends to be safer to use than an Android device. All iPhones have safeguards that protect both the information in your phone and your privacy.

Why is the iPhone camera better than the Samsung? ›

iPhone vs. Samsung: Final thoughts

Though I didn't go into comparisons of all the various modes or videos, both phones are evenly matched in those areas as well. The iPhone has a slight edge in its ability to record ProRes video files, though there are third-party Android apps that can do the same.
